The aim was to redefine the overall offering from Hodder Education by invigorating the design and channelling customers more effectively to the information that they wanted. As part of this process was a need to make it easier for users to purchase items of different types and for Hodder to more easily cross-sell products and improve the volume of sales from the site.

The A-Z series of handbooks, from Philip Allan Updates, have been a staple diet for students and teachers alike for many years used both widely at school and within the home. More recently the products have come under stiff competition from the rise of the Internet and specifically free resources such as Wikipedia, which are considered authoritative, although the information within free online resources can be of a variable quality.
The challenge was to produce digital resources to accompany the completely updated A-Z series handbooks, providing the purchaser with a definitive easy to use resource via the books, via the web and via the desktop.

The client BAA is the largest airports operator in the UK and faces the daily challenge of how to ensure that the passengers who visit their airports are easily able to find their way to all of the essential services that they need as well as presenting their visitors with all of the options on which retailers are available within the airports.
Much of this information was already available as static PDF downloads and the client was looking to provide the user with a more interactive way of finding the information that they were interested in.

The term ‘SharePoint’ collectively refers to a selection of Microsoft products, the basic solution being a Windows-based platform with a number of complementary products that are effectively ‘bolted on’ as required.
One of these complementary products is Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, (or MOSS). MOSS can effectively be thought of as Microsoft’s content management system; as an enterprise level CMS it enables deployment of web pages with associated user, document and information management. Since its initial release, industry analyst assessments of MOSS have varied significantly with some criticism of its limitations and delayed support for emerging technologies.
MMT Digital’s first experience of SharePoint and MOSS came several years ago, when, working in partnership with Digital & Advertising Agency Omobono, we first began to deliver projects for one of the world’s leading consultancy firms, (unfortunately we can’t tell you who). Since then we’ve deployed a large number of MOSS based solutions.

The aim was to increase Hodder Education’s share of the schools digital market place and to make sales without cannibalising the sales of the accompanying textbooks. The digital versions of the products are offered to Schools, Colleges and Local Authorities (LAs) as enhancements to the textbooks that they are produced in conjunction with. This therefore meant that the digital product needed to work as both a standalone item and in conjunction with the textbooks but without replacing the need for them.

Philip Allan had been producing their magazines across a range of subjects since 1982. The challenge was that the business was facing contracting magazine sales and had problems in targeting the sales of the magazines directly to students. And all this against a background of greater use of digital resources in UK schools and colleges.

The SHA wished to improve its quality assurance in delivering healthcare placements to student nurses and other healthcare students throughout the Yorkshire and Humber SHA area. The client wanted to gain feedback from students about the quality of such training whilst enabling those delivering the training to be able to detail and describe the learning environment to those students in advance.
An identified overriding need was for there to be coordination between the demand for and the supply of such placements, since there was no existing way that capacity of placements locations could be readily monitored.

The term ‘widget’ has been known to be lazily applied in digital circles, so let us first define what it is. Generally speaking a widget is an interactive tool that provides what will often be a single-purpose service, (so for example a typical desktop widget might be a clock that displays the time). Normally widgets are XML and JavaScript based (often with a Flash interface), making MMT Digital well placed to deliver a whole range of them.
Facebook applications are a popular type of widget, and the nature of Facebook serves to ensure that any good application made available through that medium has the potential to reach a large audience in record time.
So when Digital & Advertising Agency Omobono asked us to work with them to develop a Facebook application for one of the world’s leading consultancy firms, (sorry but we can’t tell you who), we were only too happy to lend a hand.

The challenge was to produce digital resources to accompany the completely updated A-Z series handbooks, providing the purchaser with a definitive easy to use resource via the books, via the web and via the desktop.
One of the core challenges for this project was that the same source files that were used to create the print based products also had to be used to create the digital products with as little manual intervention as possible.

One of the UK’s largest brokers of new and used boats, Nottingham Boat Sales market an impressive catalogue of narrow boats, canal boats and barges to a diverse consumer audience group. Whilst the previous Nottingham Boat Sales website provided detailed listings of boats available for sale, it was not possible for the Boat Sales team to update these or the rest of the site in-house. The objective for this project was to upgrade the website to a new platform that would be able to better reflect the frequent catalogue updates and support implementation of site revisions in-house; both of which would stand to remove costs associated with website updates whilst simultaneously driving sales.
