The SHA wished to improve its quality assurance in delivering healthcare placements to student nurses and other profession students throughout the West Yorkshire area. The client wanted to gain feedback from students about the quality of such training whilst enabling those delivering the training to be able detail and describe the learning environment to those students in advance. An identified overriding need was for there to be coordination between the demand for and the supply of such placements, since there was no existing way that capacity of placements locations could be readily monitored.
Over a two year period MMT Digital has developed an online Quality Assurance Tool with three distinct elements. Firstly an online questionnaire completed by all students after each placement is finished provides detailed statistical analysis about each location and the perceived quality of the training. Secondly a sophisticated profile tool enables each placement's educational lead (such as a ward sister) to produce and publish a profile of their placement, including the number of places available for each placement. Thirdly a Directory operates as an online booking system for university placement officers so that the student placements can be organised online (the Directory is being piloted during 2007.)
