Generic Induction Training for Healthcare Professionals
Newly qualified doctors and nurses arrive at their first NHS Trust to be confronted usually by a day and a half of generic induction training covering such things as infection control, child protection, fire, health and safety issues, and blood transfusion. Many find the process lengthy and tedious, often comprising a succession of Powerpoint presentations - and those providing the training are hard pressed and busy people. Frequently the training is missed by the trainees. The Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at Rotherham NHS Trust recognised that the process required improvement and approached MMT Digital for a solution. Part of the brief was a request that the training should be more engaging and if possible enjoyable.
From the material provided MMT Digital devised a series of multimedia screens with tutors' voice overs, graphics, notes, interactive exercises, video, tests and a certification or tracking system. The client was delighted with the outcomes, and the Trust developed eight modules of training in all. Trainees can complete the training in advance of reporting for duty, and this saves valuable professional time. Other Trusts then asked if they could have access to the training and also identified other topics that they would like covered. There are now eighteen modules in existence, and they can be supplied via CD ROMs, across networks or via a website. Trusts buy into the basic modules and they can be edited by MMT (at relatively low cost) to local trainers' needs.
