‘Rich Internet Applications’ (RIA’s) are probably best described as web based applications which share similar interactive functionality to desktop applications. However, RIA’s have significant benefits over desktop applications, as being web based, they are able to offer real-time information and allow you as the user to provide it too

The prominence of Rich Internet Applications is likely to increase with the release of ‘Adobe Air runtime environment, giving opportunities for downloadable desktop RIA’s, functional both online and offline, with dynamic Internet content.
