The Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) is a new ‘framework’ for bringing the web to your desktop. Released in February this year it is beginning to revolutionise the way in which desktop and web based applications interact and perform.
Similar to the Flash Player (which is installed on 98% of internet enabled computers) the AIR runtime offers you solutions that are visually flexible and powerful – but this time, with a twist. The AIR runtime converts your solution to a desktop application, so you’re not tied to the internet or the browser. There’s full PDF support and even a built-in web browser – based on the same technologies as Mozilla Firefox, Apples’ Safari and Google Chrome.
We’ve been developing AIR applications since the Beta stages almost a year ago, and have recently completed our first few commercial AIR applications. Our work is all a bit hush-hush at the moment because of NDAs, but you can get an idea of what we can achieve for you by looking at the AIR applications that other companies have developed, like BBC Sport’s Desktop Monkey, eBay Desktop or the Adobe Media Player.
